Amazing guide, he really did everything to make sure we could see northern lights and even extended the trip (for free) after asking us if it was okay or if we had to go home. Thanks to this generosity we ended up seeing incredible lights! The sausages and homemade glögi were amazing too :)) Absolutely worth it especially for this price.

The guide was super friendly and helpful. This activity showed us a frozen lake site under a beautiful starry sky. Plus, we got to see a bunch of Northern Lights. What an unforgettable evening! The icing on the cake was that our guide was kind enough to take us back to our hotel. It's a really great activity that's also very affordable.

We just finished our tour, and it truly exceeded my expectations. Although we weren’t able to do the campfire barbecue and hot drinks, it was completely understandable since it was extremely cold outside (around -26°C). We were totally okay with that and it didn’t take away from the experience at all. Our tour guide was amazing, very accommodating, knowledgeable, and great at explaining everything. Most importantly, he took incredible Northern Lights photos that my daughter and I will cherish for the rest of our lives. We were lucky enough to witness the Northern Lights dancing in the sky, which was such a surreal and unforgettable moment. Skip the big companies and go with someone local. He knows amazing spots and will even stop driving if he sees the Northern Lights on the way—that’s how accommodating and dedicated he is to making this experience special. This tour is way, way cheaper, probably the cheapest you’ll find among all the tours here and it is totally worth it!!!! -Chris

We stumbled upon it by chance at the very last moment, and it was a pleasant surprise! The description of the excursion should be reviewed because it was a "real" hunt for the northern lights, with photos taken by the guide (Finnish by birth). By the way, what a guide! Wow! Persevering, with great knowledge and super equipment, as well as a top-notch van (we were two French-speaking families, that's 8). He brought us to the right place ;) despite the bad weather for seeing the auroras (bad Kp and bz indices) - night of 12/20-21. Don't hesitate to book this human, simple, and authentic excursion! Thanks for everything 🙏🏼

Frequently asked questions

Can you really guarantee the Northern Lights?

No one can guarantee the Northern Lights themselves, as they are a natural phenomenon. What we can guarantee is our commitment to actively searching for the best possible viewing conditions throughout the tour.

If the Northern Lights are not visible during your experience, you'll receive a 50% Second Chance Voucher for another Aurora Hunt during your stay (subject to availability). This gives you another opportunity to experience the Aurora without paying the full tour price again.

Why is this tour limited to 4 hours?

This experience is designed to offer an affordable and accessible Northern Lights adventure without requiring an entire night of travel.

During the four-hour tour, we actively search for the best available sky conditions around Rovaniemi, using weather forecasts, cloud maps and real-time Aurora data to maximise your chances of seeing the Northern Lights within the available time.

The fixed duration allows us to keep the tour affordable while still providing a genuine Aurora hunting experience rather than simply visiting a single viewing location.

What happens if we don’t see the Northern Lights?

The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and can never be guaranteed. If the Aurora is not visible during your tour, you'll receive a 50% Second Chance Voucher for another Aurora Hunt during your stay (subject to availability).

The voucher allows you to book a second Aurora Hunt at 50% off the regular tour price, giving you another opportunity to experience the Northern Lights while visiting Lapland.

Do I need a camera or photography skills?

No.

You're welcome to bring a camera or smartphone, but no photography experience is required. I'll be happy to help with camera settings and share practical tips for photographing the Northern Lights whenever conditions allow.

Many guests simply choose to enjoy the experience and capture a few memories with their phones, while others bring dedicated camera equipment to make the most of the Arctic night sky.

Will the tour be cancelled due to weather?

No. This experience is designed to operate even when weather forecasts look challenging.

Instead of visiting a fixed location, we actively search for the best available sky conditions around Rovaniemi using weather forecasts, cloud maps and real-time Aurora data. Depending on conditions, we may change locations during the evening to maximise your chances of seeing the Northern Lights.

The tour is not cancelled simply because cloud cover is expected or Aurora forecasts appear weak. However, in rare cases, the tour may be cancelled due to severe weather, dangerous road conditions, emergencies or official restrictions. If we cancel the tour, you will receive a full refund.

Is this suitable for beginners and kids?

No previous experience is needed, and the tour is suitable for both first-time Aurora hunters and families with children.

The experience is designed to be easy and accessible. I take care of the route planning, weather monitoring and Aurora hunting, so you can simply relax and enjoy the adventure.

Please note that the tour takes place outdoors in Arctic winter conditions and may include short walks on snowy or icy surfaces. Children should be comfortable spending time outside in cold weather and travelling by vehicle for up to 4 hours.

Where do we go during the hunt?

There is no fixed route.

Each evening, I choose the direction based on weather forecasts, cloud coverage and Aurora activity. The goal is simple: find the clearest skies and best possible conditions within the available tour time.

Some nights we stay close to Rovaniemi, while other nights may take us to more remote locations away from city lights. The exact route depends entirely on the conditions of that particular evening.

The destination is never the goal — finding the Aurora is.

Where does the tour start?

The tour departs from one of two meeting points in Rovaniemi:

  • Three Elves Restaurant Lobby, Santa Claus Village (pick-up approximately 30 minutes before the tour start time)

  • Scandic Pohjanhovi parking area, Rovaniemi city centre (at the scheduled tour start time)

The selected departure point will be confirmed in your booking details. At the end of the experience, you'll be returned to the same location.
